Pirates starting pitcher Derek Holland gave up four home runs in the first 11 pitchers he delivered to the Detroit Tigers and gave up five runs in the first inning, as the Pirates lost to the Tigers, 11-5, Saturday at PNC Park.
Holland gave up just one more run through the next four innings and the Pirates closed the gap to 6-5, but Holland was touched up for three more runs in the sixth inning and the Bucs failed to score another run.
Kevin Newman smacked four hits for the Pirates, who lost for the 12th time in the first 15 games of the shortened season.
The Pirates wrap up the three-game series with the Tigers on Sunday afternoon. Airtime on WCCS AM 1160 and 101.1 FM is 1:10 p.m.
