Governor Tom Wolf during a news conference on Thursday said that his administration would recommend that high school sports be postponed until January 1st of 2020, and local officials are reacting to that announcement.
Wolf made those comments Thursday morning, and in the afternoon issued a follow up statement saying that it was not a mandate, but rather a recommendation for high school sports. He also said he would leave it up to the school districts to decide on whether or not to play in the fall.
Homer-Center High School football coach Greg Page says that he hopes things can be worked out for sports to start as originally scheduled by the PIAA, and not just for the sake of football.
The PIAA board of directors is expected to meet today and an announcement on how they will proceed could come as soon as this afternoon.
State Senator Joe Pittman and State Representative Jim Struzzi will be on Indiana in the Morning this morning to offer their reaction to the Governor’s statement. Struzzi will join the show at 8:10, while Pittman will join the conversation at 8:45.
