The governing body for state high school sports voted 29-3 to give the go-ahead for fall sports, following strictly the 24-page “Return to Competition” document it developed, using guidelines from the state Health Department, the CDC, and a number of its own committees.
PIAA Executive Director Bob Lombardi says, for now, the state Department of Health is allowing schools to make their own decisions on playing sport this fall.
He says the PIAA felt they had to do whatever they could to get the kids back to play.
Lombardi says that as of now, they are planning to have no spectators at the games, although he would like that to change, especially for seniors
Lombardi says the decision to not allow spectators was a hard one, because the Department of Health’s guidelines are confusing.
The Return to Competition report offers detailed guidelines for cross country, field hockey, football, golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball, and water polo.
