For the second straight day, the Pirates took the Cardinals to extra innings in search of a series win. However, things did not go in their favor and they split the four-game series with St. Louis.

Pirates manager Derek Shelton liked the resiliency from his team in Sunday’s finale.
Shelton got another quality start from Mitch Keller, who allowed just three runs in seven innings. He said his pitchers have done well at going deep in games.
Keller said the Pirates are finding their groove both on the mound and at the plate.
The Pirates open a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies tonight. LHP Rich Hill (0-2, 7.20 ERA) goes for the Bucs. Airtime is 8:15 on WCCS 101.1 FM and AM 1160.
The infirmary continued to fill up on Sunday. Filling in for General Manager Ben Cherington during his weekly radio show, senior vice president of baseball operations Bryan Stroh announced that LHP Rob Zastryzny was placed on the 15-day injured list with left elbow discomfort. RHP Yohan Ramirez was recalled from AAA Indianapolis to fill in.
Additionally, first baseman Ji Man Choi was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left Achilles, retroactive to April 14. Utility player Tucupita Marcano was called up to take his spot and went 0-for-2 with two walks in Sunday’s game.

New York Mets starter Max Scherzer had his start yesterday pushed back after dealing with “lingering back soreness.” He underwent an MRI as a precaution, but expects to start on Wednesday in Los Angeles.
