The Pirates were in control of their home opener, leading the Brewers by four runs to open the 9th inning in a rain-plagued game. They couldn’t hold the lead and lost in extra innings.
Greg Brown has the recap
It was Colin Moran’s third straight home opener in which he hit a home run for the Pirates. Moran says the Brewers are good enough to take advantage of any openings you give them.
Steven Brault started the game and pitched two scoreless innings before a long rain delay. Chad Kuhl took the mound after the dealy for his first action since Tommy John surgery in 2018. Kuhl pitched 3-and-two-thirds scoreless innings, giving up three hits, walking two, and striking out four. Kuhl says he felt a bit rusty after a long layoff from actually pitching in a big league game.
Gregory Polanco was activated from the injured list before the game and was the Pirates’ designated hitter. He was 0-for-2 with a walk.
The second game of the series is tonight (6:40 airtime on WCCS). Derek Holland makes his first Pirates start against former Bucco Josh Lindbolm.
