State police say it could take several weeks before they have a positive identification of the two people whose bodies were found early yesterday in the rubble of a mobile home fire in Green Township.
Firefighters were summoned to the scene along Two Lick Hill Road shortly before 1 AM. They arrived to find the trailer fully engulfed in flames. After knocking down the fire, they were informed that there was possibly a victim inside. Searchers found a body at 1:55 AM, but shortly before 8 AM, they discovered a second body.
The fire was initially reported to have been in Cherryhill Township, but was actually in Green Township. Firefighters from Cherryhill Township, Clymer, Commodore, Pine Township, and Nicktown were summoned along with the County RIG Team.
Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. says the first body found was reportedly that of a woman. The second victim was a male. There are social media reports identifying them, but those are not official reports. Overman says autopsies, toxicology, and DNA will be used to identify the victims.
The state police fire marshal from Greensburg investigated the scene. No cause for the fire has yet been determined. It is not considered suspicious.
The region was hit by several other fires yesterday.
Firefighters were summoned to a structure fire on High Street in Robinson, in West Wheatfield Township, shortly before 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Bolivar, Clyde, New Florence, and Fairfield Township were dispatched.
Four fire companies were sent to a flue fire on First Street in Conemaugh Township. Tunnelton, Coal Run/McIntyre, ISeline/West Lebanon, and Blairsville firefighters responded.
