The Pittsburgh Pirates rallied for three runs in the fourth inning and held on for their first victory of the shortened 2020 season, a 5-1 decision in St. Louis Sunday afternoon. The Pirates improved to 1-2.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, but it was all Pittsburgh after that. Colin Moran hit Pittsburgh’s first home run of the season to tie the score in the fourth inning, then José Osuna homered to deep left-center field later in the inning, scoring Phillip Evans.

Josh Bell’s sacrifice fly brought in a run in the fifth inning, and Evans capped the scoring with a double to drive in Bell in the eighth.
Mitch Kellar started and pitched five innings to earn the win. He struck out two Cardinals and gave up just two hits. After a rough start in the first two games, the Pirates bullpen blanked St. Louis on three hits through the final four innings.
Evans led the Pirates with three hits. Osuna’s two RBI gives him four to lead the team in the early going.
