Recognizing that he’s just run out of time to develop as a football player, the Steelers yesterday waived former rugby star Christian Scotland-Williamson, who had been with the team since 2018. The 27-year-old 6-foot-9, 274-pound tight end was part of the NFL’s International Pathways program and has spent the last two seasons as a practice squad players on a league roster exemption
Former Pitt and Pine-Richland quarterback Ben DiNucci has signed a four-year rookie contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Out of James Madison, DiNucci was a seventh round pick.
The NFL is considering canceling all preseason games for 2020. ESPN is reporting that the league made the offer to the Players Association as talks continue between the two sides regarding safety guidelines amid the pandemic.
The league announced players will be tested every day for the first two weeks of training camp. Testing will then move to every other day if the positivity rate is below five-percent.
Pitt safety Paris Ford was named yesterday to the Jim Thorpe Award watch list for the upcoming season. The junior led the Panthers with 97 tackles and three interceptions last season. Penn State’s Lamont Wade also was named to the Thorpe Award watch list.
