Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was absent from practice yesterday in Cranberry, a day after he left in the middle of the team’s scrimmage with an apparent but undisclosed injury.
Coach Mike Sullivan could not say what Crosby’s issue is due to the NHL’s privacy policy that prohibits any discussion of injuries or illnesses. A team staffer did disclose that “it was a precautionary measure for an undisclosed ailment”.
Nine other players were held out of practice yesterday due to a potential secondhand coronavirus exposure. The Penguins had only 24 of its 34 players available for the session yesterday.
In Saturday’s scrimmage, Crosby scored one of seven “Team Black” goals against Matt Murray. Sullivan packed Team Black with the top two lines and defensemen, making for a miserable outing for Murray, who is contending with All-Star Tristan Jarry for the goal tending job for the Montreal series opener.
The Penguins are scheduled to play an exhibition game against the Flyers on July 28th, with the five-game play-in series against Montreal slated to begin on August 1st.
