BASEBALL
Indiana played the second of back-to-back games against Knoch, and beat the Knights for the second day in a row. Here’s Jake Slebodnick.
The Indiana JV team is still unbeaten after a 13-6 win over Knoch. The Indians had nine hits by eight different players. Derek Miller had a double and two RBIs and Tim Birch drove in two. Indiana stole nine bases. Sully VanHoose got the win with nine Ks in four innings and Brock Lewis struck out three in the final three innings.
Homer-Center’s Brayden Rado hit a two-run double in the 6th inning as the Wildcats scored four in the frame and went on to beat Bishop Carroll, 7-3. Owen Saiani was 2-for-3 with two triples. Rado had three RBIs. Nate Birchall had a hit and three walks and Michael Krejocic drew three walks. Saiani got the win with one inning in relief of Krejocic, who went four-and-a-third shutout innings with six strikeouts. Caleb Palmer threw the final inning-and-a-third for Homer-Center.
Northern Cambria is 7-0 after an 18-3 rout of West Shamokin. Caleb Dolney had three hits and four RBIs. Brad Valeria, Josh Yachtis, and Evan Wiewora all had two hits for the Colts.
SOFTBALL
Olivia Zimmerman blasted a 3-run home run in the top of the 11th as Indiana topped McKeesport, 9-8, in a section game. Haley Hamilton had two hits for Indiana. Addie Stossel struck out eight and issued one walk. Indiana is 8-1, 3-0 in the section.
Homer-Center outslugged Glendale 11-10 on a 7-run two-out rally in the bottom of the 7th inning. Trailing 10-4 as they opened the inning, the Wildcats strung together six hits and a walk, with a Glendale error helping out. Julia King led off the 7th with a double, then Ava King walked, and after a strikeout and a groundout, Alaina Fabin drove in both of the King sisters, then Emily Bowser, Kylee Krejocic, and Ashlyn Kerr all singled and Glendale booted Grace Frazier’s grounder. In her second at-bat of the inning, Julia King laced the next pitch into center, driving in Kerr and Frazier for a walkoff win. Fabin had three hits and three RBIs for Homer-Center, Melanie George had two doubles and two RBIs and Julia King had two hits including a double. She also got the win in relief of her sister Ava.
West Shamokin crushed Northern Cambria, 13-1. Maddi Keim had 3 hits, including a triple, and four RBIs. Aleya Talmadge had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Maddie McConnell had two hits and three RBIs.
TRACK & FIELD
In a meet featuring four teams, the United boys nipped Purchase Line, 69-67, while the Purchase Line girls beat United, 117-31. United swept Penns Manor, the boys winning, 80-68, and the girls, 77-60. Purchase Line and Penns Manor split. The Red Dragons’ girls topped the Comets, 79-42, while the Comets boys won their matchup, 81-32.
Conemaugh Township was the big winner, topping the United girls, 104-45, and beating the Lions boys, 86-64. The Indians’ teams swept the Purchase Line girls and boys, 92-55 and 107-24. And they swept Penns Manor by a girls score of 96-51 and a boys score of 94-42.
