The deadline passed yesterday without Bud Dupree and the Steelers reaching an agreement on a multi-year extension. The linebacker will play under the terms of the franchise-tag $15.82 million tender he signed in April. Dupree logged a career-high 11-and-a-half sacks last season. Last week, Dupree filed a grievance that he should be classified a defensive end with a tag worth 17.8-million, although he has never lined up at DE for Pittsburgh.
Quarterback Dak Prescott failed to reach agreement with the Cowboys and will play this year for his franchise tender of $31.4 million.
Eight other NFL players were unable to reach multi-year deals with their respective teams and will play under the franchise tag. That list includes the Buccaneers pass rusher Shaq Barrett, Vikings safety Anthony Harris, Chargers tight end Hunter Henry, Ravens pass rusher Matthew Judon, Washington guard Brandon Scherff, Broncos safety Justin Simmons, Patriots guard Joe Thuney and Giants defensive lineman Leonard Williams. Two others, Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue and Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green, have yet to sign their tenders. The Titans were able to lock up running back Derrick Henry on a long-term deal worth $50 million over four years.
