Those trying to get through to 911 in the Northern Cambria area are being asked to use cell phones or a direct-dial number to get through to emergency services.
Indiana County’s Department of Emergency Management confirmed this morning that there is a problem with the Northern Cambria part of their service area. Anyone trying to contact 911 from a phone with the prefix 814-948 will get a recorded message saying that the line is busy and to try calling again later.
Indiana County Emergency Management Director Tom Stutzman said that they are aware of the problem and are asking people to either use their cell phone to call 911 or to call 724-349-1428 if they cannot use a cell phone. Verizon has been notified of the problem and are working on it now.
This problem is only affecting people in the Northern Cambria area. Everyone else is able to call 911 from a landline or cell phone in case of emergency.
