The Penguins begin their formal training camp today at their practice facility in Cranberry. The team yesterday announced its 34-player roster and it does include Jake Guentzel and Zach Aston-Reese, who had been out with long-term injuries. It does NOT include the names of forwards Nick Bjugstad and Dominik Simon or defenseman Zach Trotman, who are all out for the season. Bjugstad had back surgery, Simon had shoulder surgery, and Trotman is out with an undisclosed issue.
Penguins training camp will close on July 25th, with the team then slated to play Montreal in a five-game play-in series for the Stanley Cup playoffs. The NHL teams participating in the tournament will be permitted thirty skaters and unlimited goaltenders.
The tentative schedule calls for the series to be played August 1st, 3rd, and 5th, with additional games on the 7th and 8th, if necessary.
