The Center Township Supervisors met for their reorganization meeting last night.
Supervisor Dave “Butch” Smyers was voted to the position of Supervisors Chairman. Previous chairman John Bertolino said he did not wish to be chairman anymore and Smyers was elected to the post.
The supervisors also formally approved their 2018 budget, which contains no tax increases. Taxes for township residents remain at 1.025 mils, with a fire protection tax of .23 mils, a per capita tax of $5 a person, a 1/2% tax on wages of Center Township Residents, and the recently passed 1% earned income tax on the wages of those who work in Center Township but do not live there also approved.
Supervisors also made a request for people to be careful around the township’s plow trucks. Bertolino said that the plow trucks should be given room to work, especially in clearing an intersection. In an intersection, the trucks need to back up and pull forward, and if someone’s really close to the truck’s tailgate, it could cause some problems.
Also, borough residents are reminded to not park their vehicles or leave large items like basketball hoops on township roads and rights of way to allow the plows to do their work.
