On Thursday night, the Homer-Center School Board approved a Summer Activity Health and Safety plan to reopen the district buildings on a temporary basis.
The plan approved last night will allow the Evergreen After School Club to meet at the district, but it is a limited plan that will be in place until August 24th or a health and safety plan for the 2020-2021 school year is approved. Superintendent Curtis Whitesel said that the draft 2020-2021 health and safety plan has been discussed at length.
Whitesel said that there were some things the board was not comfortable with, including social distancing guidelines and classroom and cafeteria capacity numbers.
Board President Michael Bertig said that by passing the summer activity plan will not only allow summer programs to go on, but will allow for further discussion.
Further discussion is expected during an executive session meeting later this month and could be up for a vote at a special meeting on August 6th.
In other business, the board hired Holly Rougeaux as the new Elementary Principal and approved a 3 percent increase for all district security guards for the next school year.
