The IUP Softball team welcomed nine players in the 2020 recruiting class yesterday.
Head coach Shawna Bellaud made the announcement at 1:30 p.m., and the class includes players from Pennsylvania, California and Virginia. When broken down, the team adds four pitchers, three infielders, a catcher and a utility player to the roster. Coach Bellaud said in the announcement that she’s excited to welcome these players to the IUP softball family. A few notable standouts are:
- Bella Bucy – Thomas Jefferson HS – P/OF – 2nd team all WPIAL; 2020 Class 4A Fab Five; 2019 Class 4A first team all-section
- Amanda Mowery – transfer from Morgan State (DI) – During her freshman year, she was seventh in the nation with a 1.97 ERA prior to tearing her ACL; 9-2 record with eight complete games; Finished 2019 with a 9-9 record, 3.53 ERA and one save.
- Emily Turner – Fauquier HS – C/UTIL – First team all-district catcher in 2019; four-year varsity starter in HS.
Also joining the team is Marion Center graduate Hailey McCunn, a 5’4” infielder, who chose IUP to further her softball career while staying close to home.
