Two Indiana County Sheriff’s deputies were injured Friday afternoon in an altercation with a man and his dog in Shelocta Borough. According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, the deputies, whose identities were not disclosed, went to a home on Sugar Avenue to serve a Protection from Abuse Order on 44-year-old Allen Beers Jr. Beers became combative and fought with the deputies, aggressively resisting arrest and ordering his dog to attack. The deputies then used pepper spray and a taser on Beers, and one of them drew his gun and fired at the attacking dog, hitting it in the face and forcing it to retreat. Beers was subdued and taken into custody. He was arraigned before District Judge Susanne Steffee on four counts of aggravated assault and two counts each of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and harassment. He’s being held at the Indiana County Jail, with bond set at $75,000 and a preliminary hearing set for January 16th. The deputies were treated at the Indiana Regional Medical Center for minor injuries, including bites from both the dog and from Beers.
