The snow overnight has brought about slick road conditions once again.
PennDOT Crews have been out plowing major roadways in Indiana County, and local crews are also headed out to help keep the roads clean as more snow is anticipated today. After the 1-2 inches of snow we had overnight, another 1-3 inches is expected for our area. And in the ridges, it will be much worse, with a winter weather advisory in effect until 7 AM on Sunday. In the mountains, people can expect to see another 4-7 inches of snow total, and isolated areas could see up to 9 inches by Sunday morning.
PennDOT advises that if the weather prohibits it, don’t travel unless you absolutely have to. They advise if you do have to head out, increase your following distance and slow down, avoid sudden stops and starts, and beware of roads that may look just wet but have Black Ice on them. Also, exercise caution on ramps and bridges, as those areas tend to freeze quicker before the road. Also, make sure you remove snow and ice from your car, so that none can fly off and blind a driver behind you. State law says that if snow or ice from your car flies off and causes an accident that results in injury or death, you will be ticketed.
