The Pennsylvania Game Commission released its yearly report for the whitetail deer hunting season, and the areas covering Indiana County have seen significant harvests over the past year.
The Game Commission estimates that in Wildlife Management Unit 2D – which covers all of Armstrong County, along with portions of Indiana, Jefferson, Clarion, and Westmoreland County – led all Pennsylvania WMUs in both antlered and antlerless deer harvests. Approximately 14,000 antlered deer were harvested in 2D last year, while 23,000 antlerless deer were reported.
Meanwhile, in WMU 2E – which covers the other half of Indiana County, along with portions of Cambria, Clearfield, and Jefferson County – 6,700 antlered deer and 10,600 antlerless deer were harvested.
In total, 251,520 deer were harvested by firearms hunters, 164,340 of them being antlerless. Bowhunters accounted for more than a third of the total deer harvest, taking 145,640 whitetail deer.
