IUP is getting ready for their upcoming Research Appreciation Week.
The university will celebrate innovative student and faculty research and creative work. As part of the festivities, the university will welcome Dean Emerita Deanne Snavely as the keynote speaker for a Women in STEM event. Snavely retired from her position as dean of the Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in June of 2021, completing 38 years of work in higher education as both administrator and educator. As part of her work to establish initiatives that welcome and support talented women and underrepresented students in STEM, Snavely was part of a consortium of western Pennsylvania and northern Ohio universities to promote gender equity for faculty in STEM programs through a $750,000 grant from the National Science Foundation’s Advance Program.
The summit will be held on Monday, April 3rd from 4-7 PM in the Toretti Auditorium of the KCAC, and will start with a poster session of student research projects from 4-5. During the formal program, the university will present its Dr. Patricia Hilliard Robertson Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Female Science Students. The scholarship pays tribute to the Homer City native and class of 1985 alum and was a crew-support astronaut for the Expedition Two crew that was preparing for service aboard the International Space Station in 2001.
Activities are planned for the whole week, with most of them at the KCAC. Many of the events will be open to the public.
