It will be a busy day in Indiana County Court today, but not nearly as busy as it might have been. Today was to be the trial date for three high-profile defendants, but the trials of Simere Alford, Dwight Bowen, and Charles Cook have all been postponed until later this year.
Alford’s trial for attempting to kill two state troopers last summer has been rescheduled for September 8th.
Bowen’s trial for killing his SCI Pine Grove cellmate is rescheduled for September 21st.
Cook’s trial for criminal use of a communication facility, committed while he was an inmate at the Indiana County Jail, is also on the September 21st schedule. Cook is also scheduled for trial August 24th for the murder of Myrtle McGill in 1991.
On the schedule today is a probation revocation hearing for James Brown, the 35-year-old man accused of being at the wheel of a car which crashed into Pikel’s Top Tier Fuels in Home in 2018, killing a Commodore woman who was working there. District Attorney Bob Manzi asked for the revocation on May 29th. Brown’s trial is scheduled for September 21st.
Judge Mike Clark will conduct non-jury trials for 47-year-old Richard Thacker of Shelocta, 42-year-old Brian Baker of Saltsburg, and 31-year-old Robert Krouse of Altoona, who are all charged with contempt for violating a protection from abuse order.
Several defendants are scheduled for sentencing today:
- 36-year-old Amanda Filler of Northern Cambria will be sentenced for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
- 57-year-old Robert McCleary of Johnstown will be sentenced for terroristic threats and harassment.
- 31-year-old Dustin Thomas of Numine will be sentenced for endangering the welfare of children.
