The US Department of Agrculture has announced that their Farm Service Agency is reminding everyone that the agency has reserved funding specifically for use by targeted underserved groups and beginning farmers and ranchers.
The FSA loans are designed to help farmers purchase and operate family farms. A portion of the FSA loans are always reserved to help groups who have been subjected to racial, ethnic or gender prejudice. This includes women, African Americans, American Indians and Alaskan Natives, Hispanics and Asian and Pacific Islanders. Direct loans are available for both farm ownership and farm operation. Repayment usually runs from 1-7 years for direct operating loans and up to 40 years for direct ownership loans.
Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for the program. Anyone with questions or who want an application can call the local FSA office at 724-463-8547 extension 2 or go to the local office at 1432 Route 286 East in Indiana.
