Some important dates are coming up for the 2020 US Census, and Indiana County and many of its municipalities are continuing to increase their self-response rate.
Statistics from the Census Bureau show that seven municipalities in the county have exceeded their self-response rate from the 2010 census, including two who have gone up by more than 20 percent. Plumville saw the biggest jump, as it went up 24.8 percent from its 2010 rate. Shelocta’s self-response rate went up by 22.7 percent. Others who have increased their self-response rates from 2010 include Ernest Borough (15.0 percent), Creekside Borough (12.1 percent), Armagh Borough (11.9 percent), West Wheatfield Township (1.3 percent) and Canoe Township (0.2 percent)
Indiana County’s overall self-response rate is at 59.4 percent, and while that’s an increase of four-tenths of a percent more than last week, Indiana County is still six percent behind where it was during the last census for self-response rates. By comparison, the national self-response rate is 60.9 percent, but the national rate is 5.6 percent from where it was in 2010.
Everyone is encouraged to respond to the U.S. Census as soon as possible, as census takers will visit households that have not self-responded on August 11th. The 2020 census ends on October 31st, which is 138 days from now.
