Along with the chase and the apartment building collapse on Saturday night, authorities were busy in the final day of IUPatty’s detail.
Indiana Borough Police reported to I-ACT that large gatherings began Saturday afternoon and continued through the night, most of them remaining campus-adjacent with Rice Avenue, 7th Street and Wayne Avenue popular locations. Police were called out 80 times, with 17 of those calls IUP related. Police charged 9 people with public drunkenness, five with underage drinking, two with drug-related crimes, two with disorderly gatherings, two with noise offenses, and three were charged with harassment.
State police also responded to a report of a gunshot along Grove Lane, but upon further investigation, there was no evidence of a gun going off, and no victims were found in that incident. Troopers also reported an incident where a patrol car was rammed by a drunk driver. This was at 11:33 PM when troopers on patrol came across the crash along Locust Street near South Sixth Street. When the trooper activated the patrol car’s lights, the suspect, an un-named 19-year-old Mt. Pleasant man, began backing his vehicle up to flee the scene. He then put the car in drive and collided with the state police car head-on. Damage to the car was minor and no injuries were reported to the troopers.
State Police made one DUI-Drug arrest, three DUI-Alcohol arrests, one drug possession arrest and investigated one sexual assault as part of their detail Saturday night into Sunday morning.
On Sunday, it was reported that 400 students took part in cleanup efforts in Indiana.
