The Indiana Area Collaborative Team reported on some other events of unruly behavior that were reported Friday night and early Saturday morning.
Along with the brawl at 835 Wayne Avenue that led to a shot being fired, Indiana Borough Police reported to I-ACT that a disorderly gathering was reported at the Sigma Chi fraternity that resulted in a large police presence. Most of the enforcement efforts were after midnight with the most significant incidents happening within minutes of each other and requiring multiple police resources.
As far as the state police go, troopers reported two DUI-drug related arrests and four DUI-alcohol related arrests, including two arrests involving two vehicle accidents. There was also a report of an individual assaulting a police animal. Troopers were called out at 11:46 to help members of the State Police Mounted Unit with a disorderly conduct arrest of a man near the intersection of South Street and Rice Avenue. A 20-year-old woman from New Kensington interfered with the arrest by grabbing the hand of a trooper as he was detaining the man, and she was ordered to stop and leave. While she was being detained by another member of the Mounted Unit, she struck a police horse in the right neck and stomach area several times. She continued to resist arrest as she was taken into custody. She was charged with felony abuse of a police animal, misdemeanor charges of obstruction of justice, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. She was taken to Indiana County Jail to await arraignment.
Both State Police and officers with Liquor Control Enforcement made several arrests connected with underage drinking. Those statistics were not made available.
IUP Police reported 16 calls for service, and two-alcohol/drug arrests, both of those non-students.
