State Police are offering a tool for people who have firearms to help keep an inventory of what they have in case something gets stolen.
In a news release, State Police say they are offering a new and completely optional firearms safety and inventory card. It is a PDF document that can be filled out by the gun owner which not only issue the rules of firearm safety, but it will also include a spreadsheet where gun owners can record the make, model and serial number of the gun. If a gun is stolen, police can use the information to further their investigation in the case and hopefully recover the lost or stolen firearm.
State police are also advising people of a video series they have put out on gun safety, including the cardinal rules of gun safety and proper gun storage, and the fact that they can pick up a gun cable lock free of charge at the state police barracks. The lock meets all safety requirements, and comes with instructions and two keys.
Police also recommend that people secure their valuables and firearms, and if and when possible, do not keep valuables and guns inside your car.
