A garbage truck caught fire on South Ben Franklin Road in White Township this morning, forcing the driver to dump the garbage in an empty parking lot.
Members of the Indiana Fire Association were called out at 10:56 this morning for a reported vehicle fire. When firefighters got there, they discovered the vehicle was a Waste Management garbage truck that had its contents on fire. Paul Koons of the Indiana Fire Association said the driver, who had just picked up garbage in the Poet’s Village area dumped the load of garbage in the Ben Franklin School parking lot so the truck would not catch fire.

Fire crews were on the scene for about 30 minutes to put the fire out. No injuries were reported. Waste Management is currently on scene with a new truck to clean up the mess.
