One day away from the opening of the Major League Baseball draft, and there’s yet another prediction for the selection by the Pirates at the number-seven position…Mike Axisa of CBS Sports has the Buccos taking New Mexico State second baseman Nick Gonzalez. He hit .448 and 12 homers with 36 RBI in the pandemic-shortened season. Last week, Baseball America also projected the Pirates to take Gonzalez.
Yesterday, MLB.com had the Pirates taking Louisville southpaw pitcher Reid Detmers.
Major League Baseball sent a fresh proposal to the MLB Players Association on Monday and it was promptly rejected. It would provide for a 76-game schedule at 75 percent of the pro-rated salaries of the players.
