At Monday night’s Indiana School Board meeting, the board had a lengthy discussion on the East Pike roof project and what direction the board wanted to take.
After a presentation from Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Greg Trout on the pros and cons of each option for a complete roof replacement project and for a roof repair project at East Pike, the board rejected a motion to hire contractors for the roof repairs. Some on the board, like Cinda Brode, said that this is not the time for the project as she felt the economy was not in the right place to have a large project, and they may have to “kick the can down the road.”
After that vote, a motion was made for Dunkel Roofing to make roof repairs at a cost of $12,250, but Tamara Leeper said that she wasn’t comfortable with only having two bids submitted. The board decided to table accepting bids on the repair project until more bids come in.
In other business, Business Manager Jared Cronauer gave an update on the 2020-2021 budget. He said that there were some changes in the budget, including the addition of CARES act funds and moving money from salaries and benefits to the budgetary reserve to account for some positions the board is looking at not filling next year. Cronauer said that the budget is looking better.
Finally the board had a brief discussion on getting back to meeting face to face with social distancing guidelines in place now that the county has gone to green status. The district’s administration will do some research on how to do so and will present it after next Monday’s buildings and grounds meeting.
