The Penguins are mired in a four-game losing streak and facing the high-scoring defending Stanley Cup champs tonight in Colorado. But coach Mike Sullivan got his team onto the ice almost as soon as their plane touched down in Denver yesterday to get them acclimated to the high altitude.
The Pens are coming off a 2-1 loss to Ottawa in which they fired 48 shots on goal but barely made a dent against a rookie fourth string goaltender in Dylan Ferguson. Sullivan says the team’s veteran leaders, especially the big three of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang, are doing their best to keep the team steady despite their recent struggles.
Sullivan says everybody in the Penguins organization is looking for answers as the team heads down the stretch and tries to secure a postseason spot, especially Crosby, Malkin, and Letang, who have never missed the playoffs.
Crosby says the Pens played well in the Ottawa game, but couldn’t solve Ferguson.
Lately, forward Jason Zucker has been playing his best hockey since joining the Penguins. He says that if the Penguins continue to play like they did on Monday, they’ll be okay.
Tonight’s game faces off at 8 o’clock. The airtime on 92.5 FM U92 is at 7. The Pens fly from Denver to Dallas immediately after the game to play the Stars tomorrow night.
