The last time that an Indiana County girls basketball team had a chance to win a state championship was in 2010 when the Indiana High team went to the PIAA finals. Last night, two other programs punched their ticket to Hershey.
In the Double-A division, Homer-Center’s girls routed Montrose, 47-13, at Central Mountain High School. At Kiski High School, River Valley had to come from behind to win their match against Our Lady of Sacred Heart, 44-38, to advance to the Triple-A finals. The two teams will head to the Giant Center in Hershey on Thursday, with the Lady Wildcats taking on Kennedy Catholic from Hermitage out of Mercer County at noon, and River Valley will take on Dunmore at 6:00 PM.
In Homer-Center, school has been cancelled for Thursday allow everyone to head to Hershey for the game. School will be back in session on Friday. They are also planning a sendoff for the team and a chance for members of the student body to head to Hershey as well.
River Valley is in the process of planning a sendoff, but superintendent Phillip Martel said that he would like to see a student bus head down as well.
Pre-games will start one hour before tipoff on WCCS 101.1 FM, AM 1160 and WCCSRadio.com for the Homer-Center game and on Cat Country 106.3 FM and CatCountry1063FM.com for the River Valley game.
