Many school districts have turned to alternate ceremonies for graduation exercises this year in the wake of the Coronavirus, and while Indiana Area School District is no exception, IUP is willing to help spread a tribute video to those who might not be able to see it.
IUP-TV, the university’s television station will broadcast a special tribute to the Indiana Area School District’s class of 2020 tonight. The special celebration has been planned out and filmed over the last few weeks to eliminate the risk of technical difficulties. The show will include elements from the traditional graduation ceremonies, such as guest speakers, music from the school orchestra, and the program being hosted by senior class officers, along with several tributes and pictures submitted by students to show how they have grown over their school lives. Following social distancing guidelines, many of the speakers filmed their speeches in their own homes.
The program will air tonight at 7:00 PM on IUP-TV, which is channel 6 on Comcast and is expected to run about the same length of time as a graduation ceremony. Indiana School District Superintendent Michael Vuckovich said he is still hopeful that an in-person graduation ceremony could be held in August.
