Charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault for shooting two people last March in Indiana, and with new legal troubles caused by his behavior in jail, 20-year-old Matthew McNevin of Rayne Township has asked for a new attorney, citing “irreconcilable differences” with attorney Donald McKee.
McNevin was charged with assault by a prisoner and recklessly endangering after he bit a guard who was removing him from his cell at the Indiana County Jail on November 26th. He is also facing charges of simple assault and harassment for an incident on October 30th, and with institutional vandalism, disorderly conduct (engaging in fighting), and criminal mischief for an incident on November 1st.
McNevin is awaiting trial on charges of homicide, attempted homicide, two counts each of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, plus receiving stolen property and a firearms violation in the fatal shooting of Carlos Recalde-Campos and the wounding of Samantha Riley during the IUPattys event on March 25th. Police say bad blood between McNevin and Recalde-Campos led to the shooting.
McNevin asked Judge William Martin for new representation on December 4th. With all of the criminal filings against him, his Criminal Call for the shootings has been continued until April, and there is a pretrial motions conference slated for February 27th.
