Indiana County’s unemployment rate went unchanged in the first month of 2023.
The state Department of Labor and Industry announced the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for Indiana County was 4.8 percent, which held steady from its level in December. Statewide and national unemployment rates were 4.3 percent and 3.4 percent, respectively.
Comparing Indiana County to surrounding counties, Westmoreland was at 4.2 percent, while Armstrong and Clearfield counties each had a 4.7 percent rate. Indiana tied with Jefferson and Cambria counties at 4.8 percent.
The lowest rate was in Adams County, at 2.8 percent, while Forest County’s rate was the highest at 6.4 percent.
The county’s civilian labor workforce declined by 600 to 35,800. Total non-farm jobs in the county dropped 1800 to 27,500 in January. Jobs in six of the nine industry super sectors had seasonal drops lead by government with an 800 job drop. The rest of the areas remained steady.
