Suspended Pirates pitcher Felipe Vazquez is facing a new child porn charge in St. Louis, according to documents obtained by the Tribune Review. He is charged with a single count of furnishing pornographic materials to a juvenile, which is a Class A misdemeanor. The alleged incident took place in Vazquez’s hotel room In St. Louis last July 16th with a 15-year-old girl. Vazquez is in the Westmoreland County Jail and facing more than 20 felonies in a child sex case abuse. He was arrested in September for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2017 and is being held without bond. His next hearing is June 23rd.
In other baseball news, prominent agent Scott Boras has issued a memo to his clients advising them to refuse Major League Baseball’s attempt to reduce salaries as it negotiates with the players’ union to conduct a shortened season. Reds’ pitcher Trevor Bauer says Boras should shut his mouth and stop interfering. MLB’s latest proposal to the union called for an 82-game schedule in ballparks without fans that would have a sliding scale of salary reductions, with the highest-paid players to receive the largest cuts. Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer, a Boras client and a member of the union’s eight-man executive subcommittee, issued a statement Wednesday calling further salary cuts a “non-starter.”
