Motorists are urged to be cautious today with potentially snowy roads.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the Higher Elevation region of Indiana County until 2:00 this afternoon. Snow accumulation between 1-3 inches is expected, along with wind gusts as high as 35 miles an hour. But across Indiana County, roads could be slick with the fresh layer of snow that came last night and continued into the early morning hours.
PennDOT reminds people that in snowy conditions, drivers should exercise caution and reduce speeds during winter weather events, and to be aware of changing weather conditions. Drivers should prepare or restock their emergency kits with items such as non-perishable food, water, first-aid supplies, warm clothes, a blanket, cell phone charger and a small snow shovel. Motorists should tailor their kits to any specific needs that they or their families have such as baby supplies, extra medication and pet supplies.
Drivers are also asked to check PA 511 at www.511pa.com or by calling 511 from a home phone to check traffic conditions.
