On Monday night, the Indiana School Board heard an update on the Governor’s Budget proposal and what that could mean for the district as far as funding for the next school year.
District business manager Jared Cronauer said that the district could see an increase of over $1 million in its funding. This would be an increase of $900,000 in basic education subsidy, $152,000 in special education funding, along with a new grant that would be proposed to deal strictly with mental health. While the news from the Governor’s proposal is good, Cronauer said that he expects less.
In other business, the board gave the administration permission to post, interview and hire people for the district’s annual summer learning camp. Acting superintendent Robert Heinrich said that like in past years, the goal will be to stop the summer slide in learning and tie it in with fun activities.
The board also approved hiring Douglas Johnson as the new Horace Mann Principal at an annual salary of $95,000.
