Starting tomorrow, the state Department of Corrections will be reopening state prisons, using a five-level process. SCI Pine Grove, in White Township, will move to Level Three, along with thirteen other prisons located in counties that are in the “yellow” phase. Ten other prisons that are in “red” counties will move from the most restrictive level (five) to Level Four.
Inmates at SCI Pine Grove will be allowed out of their cells in groups of up to twenty, following physical distancing guidelines and wearing masks. Some of the other activities that will be permitted are meals in dining halls rather cells, visits to the prison library, commissary, and chapel, and inmates will be able to take part in work details.
There will be no visitations in the state prison system until the entire state moves to “green”, according to the governor.
