The Indiana School Board held their reorganization meeting last night.
Walter Schroth was elected by the board to serve as its president and Julia Trimarchi-Cuccaro was named the vice president of the board. To that end, the newly reorganized board, which included four new members, hit the ground running by passing a motion to authorize the administration to hire the Applied Research Lab to conduct a survey of 6th grade students, their parents or guardians and teachers that use the Summit Learning Platform. The topics will cover the platform itself, personalized learning and technology. An update on the survey’s progress will be provided to the board at a special meeting on December 18th.
The board also approved seeking bids for professional assistance in the upcoming Superintendent Search, which was not on last night’s agenda, but suggested by Tom Harley. Board President Walter Schroth said that they want to hit the ground running on several issues before they turn into big concerns.
In other business, the board tabled a memorandum of agreement with the Indiana Area Education association regarding Voluntary Workshops for bargaining unit members trained in July of 2017 on the Summit platform. The agreement would give the teachers an option to take overtime pay or compensation days for that training. The board also recognized the Indiana Softball and baseball boosters as non-profit organizations authorized to conduct small games of chance.
