White Township’s rec department is investigating an incident reported in White’s Woods.
White Township Recreation Director Ryan Shaffer confirmed that some damage was reported to some of the trees in the White’s Woods complex. Shaffer investigated today and also talked with officials with the IUP Co-op Park which borders the complex, but they were unable to come up with any leads. Shaffer confirmed that there was some paint damage on some saplings and some pole and bark skinning on trees in the areas of Friend’s Trail extension that connects to the Co-op Park and College Lodge and Rogers Trail that connects the Ridge Trail to the Spring Trail at the top of the hill.
Shaffer said he believes it was probably caused by some mountain bikers marking their trail, and while they want people to use the facilities, they need to follow the rules as well. That includes contacting the Township or the Co-Op to inform them when a group will come through.
Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to call the White Township Rec Center at 724-465-2665 or email ryanshaffer@whitetownship.org.
