The Pirates lost a slugfest to the Tigers yesterday, 10-7 in spring training baseball, but the game was as much about poor fundamentals as it was about great hitting. The Bucs committed three errors.
Pirates starter Rich Hill went three innings and gave up a run on a botched rundown. He surrendered two hits and a walk and struck out two. The Tigers scored five runs in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie. Ji-hwan Bae, Nick Gonzalez, and Tucupita Marcano each had two hits and Drew Maggi hit a three-run home run in the 9th for the Pirates. The Bucs play the Phillies today in Clearwater with JT Brubaker getting the start. You’ll hear the game on WCCS at one o’clock.

The Phils’ Bryce Harper joined his teammates in Clearwater yesterday for the first time in spring training, and said he is hoping to be able to play again by the All-Star break. Harper is recovering from Tommy John surgery. The slugger is expected to DH for Philly once he’s cleared to play.
