No agreement was reached between the Penns Manor School District and the Penns Manor Education Association, so teachers are back on the picket lines today to continue striking.
Both sides met for five hours yesterday but were not able to reach a tentative agreement. Superintendent Daren Johnston said in a statement that the teachers union decided to break off the talks before the agreement could be reached. He said that the district was disappointed in the move as they wanted students back in the classroom today.
In a statement, PSEA Region Advocacy Coordinator Annie Briscoe said that the district proposed some changes that their negotiations team needed to research further before they could provide any response. She added that the PMEA understands the frustration the district feels as they felt the same way when the district would not meet with them as often as possible between November and February to avoid the strike altogether.
Another negotiation session is scheduled for Thursday at 9:00 AM. Until then, classes remain cancelled for students in the district.
