The New York Yankees jumped on Pirates starter Luis Ortiz for five runs on seven hits in only an inning plus pitched last night. The Yanks clubbed the Pirates, 9-2, banging out 15 hits while limiting the Pirates to only four. New York scored six runs in the second inning, as Ortiz failed to get an out before being removed for Colin Selby. Chavez Young homered for the Pirates in the 9th.
Mitch Keller will get the start today against the Blue Jays in Bradenton.
Pirates pitcher Jarlin Garcia is out of the World Baseball Classic before it even begins. The left-hander was removed from the Dominican Republic’s roster yesterday after experiencing tightness in his pitching arm. Garcia gave up four runs in a third of an inning on Saturday against the Phillies.
Andrew McCutchen tested his left hand yesterday with a full workout, a day after being hit on the hand by a pitch. Manager Derek Shelton said McCutchen will be in the lineup either today or tomorrow, depending on how he feels this morning.

The Red Sox’ Justin Turner was hit in the face with a pitch yesterday and needed 16 stitches to close a cut. The longtime Dodgers third baseman suffered no fractures. He signed with the Sox during the offseason after nine years in LA.
