On Monday night, the Center Township Supervisors heard from a citizen who wants to purchase a township park to build an eight-unit senior housing development.
Last June, Fred Coy approached the supervisors with a plan to purchase Risinger Park and turn it into a group of houses for people 55 and older. That plan was presented once again to the Township Supervisors last night. He said that the park is not used to its full potential and would be better off as a property that could bring tax revenue to the township.
He believes that in ten years, the properties could generate about $60,000 in tax revenue.
Homer-Center Parks and Recreation representative Tony Maggio said that he would be okay with the idea, provided that the park itself is not lost completely.
Coy said he was not anti-park, but wanted to see the tax revenue generated for the township.
In other business, the supervisors approved an easement for a gas line to People’s Natural Gas. This is in connection with the Jacksonville Bridge Project, as a gas line will be replaced when the new bridge is installed.
