While several businesses are set to reopen on a limited basis tomorrow as Indiana County goes from red to yellow status, the Indiana Mall reports that the mall itself will remain closed with the exception of a few stores.
Under Governor Wolf’s mandate, stores in malls that have an external entrance will be allowed to reopen. According to a news release from the Indiana Mall, Harbor Freight and H&R Block have been open as they were considered essential businesses. Tomorrow, Kohl’s is expected to re-open for very limited service. Their system will have customers buying online and driving to the mall to pick up their order. Starting on Monday, Kohl’s customers will be allowed to shop inside, and they will also set up designated times for people over the age of 60.
The other anchor store, JCPenny, is still examining the situation and has said that they are looking at reopening stores in phases.
Once the mall is permitted to re-open, they will have several safety and sanitizing measures in effect, including making sure that janitorial staff has proper personal protective equipment, cleaning high-traffic areas to meet CDC guidelines, asking stores to install plexiglass shields at checkout areas, putting up hand sanitizing stations at various areas. Mall employees and security will remind people to practice social distancing and to wear face masks. Mall walking will remain cancelled until further notice. Wheelchairs, strollers and the drinking fountain will also be unavailable until further notice.
