There is still no agreement between Major League Baseball and its players’ union on getting started with some sort of season.
There is agreement, however, on bringing the designated hitter to the National League, at least for 2020. MLB Network is reporting the players are overwhelmingly in favor of adopting a universal DH for a condensed season that would start in early July.
Finances still remain a big hurdle, however, as the players union will not accept the owners’ proposal to have player salaries based on a 50-50 split of all regular-season and postseason revenue. Super-agent Scott Boras says the players want pro-rated salaries instead of the 50-50 split.
Florida governor Ron DeSantis said he will open the state as a potential site for professional sports leagues to hold practices and games when they are deemed ready to resume their seasons. DeSantis also said any professional games played in Florida would likely take place without fans.
Arizona governor Doug Ducey said he will allow his state to conduct games without spectators beginning Saturday.
