The Pitt Panthers had a chance to clinch a tie for first place in the ACC and earn a double bye for the conference tournament, but their rally fell short against 16th ranked Miami. The Panthers (21-10) lost, 78-76, on Saturday and will be seeded fifth, facing either Florida State or Georgia Tech on Wednesday at 2:30 PM (WCCS radio airtime 1:30).
The Panthers’ Blake Hinson’s forty-foot three-point shot, the potential game-winner for Pitt, glanced off the rim to give Miami the win. Hinson had hit a driving layup and a three-pointer moments before to draw the Panthers within striking distance of the win.
Hinson led all scorers in the game with 24 points. Nike Sibande scored 16 points for Pitt and Jamarius Burton had 13. Nelly Cummings added in 10 points.
