The Greensburg Catholic Diocese has announced plans to restart in-person prayer and worship.
Bishop Edward Malesic said in a news release from the diocese that the reopening of parishes will be done in waves, starting on May 15th. In the first wave, parishes will be allowed to re-open for private prayer, but the parishes must meet cleaning and sanitizing guidelines, parishioners will be asked to wear masks while inside the building, and all people in the church must adhere to social distancing guidelines by sitting six feet from others unless the group is within the same household.
Masks and social distancing mandates must also be adhered to during the Sacrament of Reconciliation, as during this first wave, priests will be allowed to utilize alternative locations to hear confession.
Wave two will include the return to mass and other liturgies. For now, Bishop Malesic said that for now, all people will remain dispensed from obligation to attend Mass on Sundays, and people can still watch mass online through social media.
