The District 6 basketball championship rounds began last night at Mount Aloysius College. Jake Slebodnick has the recap of the Class A title games.
Portage coach Travis Kargo says it was a great night of high school basketball.
Tonight, the Double-A championship games feature an all-Heritage Conference matchup for the girls, and a Heritage Conference contender going for the win in the boys game.
The action tips off at 6 when defending District 6 champion Homer-Center takes on United. The Wildcats entered the tournament as the fifth seed and beat Southern Huntingdon and Bishop McCort to earn the chance to defend their title. The Lions were the six seed in the bracket and beat fellow Heritage Conference rivals Penns Manor and Marion Center to make it to the championship game. They will try to knock off their third conference foe on the way to a district title. Homer-Center won both times the teams met in the regular season, 51-41 on December 19th and 53-41 on January 19th.
The boys championship will feature top seed United facing off with number three West Branch. United comes into the title game off wins over Homer-Center and Mount Union while the Warriors beat West Shamokin and Southern Huntingdon. In addition to their 28-point win over West Shamokin, West Branch has played one other Heritage Conference school this season, beating Cambria Heights by six in January.
You’ll be able to listen to both games tonight on Cat Country 106.3 FM and you can watch them as well, on Renda Digital TV, linked at all four of our Renda Broadcasting websites. Coverage begins with the girls game at 5:30.
