Penguins defenseman Brian Dumoulin sat down for a video chat yesterday and reflected on the pandemic’s effect on the team and the season.
Dumoulin returned from a broken ankle five games before the season was halted, and when asked about playing again after a long layoff, said it might actually help him that he knows how to do it.
The Penguins were slumping, but beat New Jersey 5-2 in their last game before the season was stopped. Dumoulin says that was an important win for the team and for him.
Asked how he would handle the situation if the NHL resumed the season with players quarantined in certain cities, away from the families, the new father said he’s ready to do what is required.
Coach Mike Sullivan is the latest member of the Penguins to chip in to help people during the pandemic. He paid for groceries for shoppers at two Pittsburgh supermarkets during senior hours yesterday. The groceries were paid for in advance by Sullivan, according to the team. In a news release, Sullivan said he and his wife, Kate, “wanted to do something for those at higher risk for the illness.”
